2009-12-13 Bynum hopes shoe swap will keep him healthy UE

Players like the feeling of being able to fly up and down the floor, but the shoes lack the support necessary for quick cuts on the court. It's not like he's seeking a new look. He's just following the advice of Pistons strength and conditioning coach Arnie Kander, who called current basketball shoes glorified "moccasins." "I haven't sprained my ankles this much my whole life," said Bynum, who suffered a sprained right ankle earlier this season. "Even when my ankle was feeling better, I was feeling every single cut that I would make in those other shoes that I had, so I just wanted to try another different shoe." "Shoes have changed a significant amount," Kander said. "They've cut all the support out of shoes.
